Hello all, my name is Ryan and I am about four months into my first year at the Lititz watch Technicum. I just finished taking a few photos of some of my watch/micromechanics projects. Take a look!

These are most of my biggest projects I have worked on so far. From top left clockwise: A movement holder, a balance tack, a screwdriver and graver sharpener, watch links, Setting parts for a watch movement and just below the movement holder is a set of Incabloc jeweling pushers and anvils in a bow tie base.

These are practice watch links made from raw brass (links themselves) and raw Steel (screws and pins). These were mainly made by filing (links) and turning on the lathe (screws).

This is a watch movement holder. Made from raw brass and steel. This was quite an involved project!

These are watch setting parts made from steel and heat treated. They fit a 6497 ETA movement (see pict with them installed). The parts are called: a yoke, a set lever bridge, a set lever and a winding stem (just finished heat treating this and that's why it is still blued).

There are also some more up-close photos in my profile page. Let me know what you think!!! Thanks for looking!!!

Hi Ryan, My name is Josh and I am currently studying horology at the school in Paris, TX. I liked the pictures of your Micro mechanics projects, they are similar to the ones that we do here. Our lathe and micro mechanics work is done in the third semester though. I was wondering if you could post the specs for the incabloc pushers because I would really like to make a set but that isn't a project we do here. Thanks and good luck with your studies, Josh

Hello Ryan (as well as all):

Firstly, I congratulate you on a wise conscious decision on your part to follow this dream.

Oddly enough many may not know, this type of work is projected to be a HIGHLY paid career in light of all the retired and currently retiring Watchmakers/repairers.

It is a quasi-dying art (TRUE watchmaking)!

I personally would have loved to pursue this type of career and looked into the Hayek School in Secaucus, NJ some years back... but the Lititz school is the IV league version of the NJ program.

How exciting for you...

I wish you lots of success, and just like everything in life - the more you apply yourself the more you gain from the whole experience.

Drop me a line when you're done and graduated, I'll have serious work for you!

Best regards,

Thank you very much James... and is there a forum you don't happen to be a moderator for?

Congratulations!  I actually visited your technicum last February with my middle daughter.  She was interviewing at Temple Univ. for there med school....we took a detour by Mt. Holly to visit with Roland Murphy at RGM and just dropped by the technicum without an appt.  Needless to say, all we saw was the outside but we had a great visit of 4 hours with Roland.....oh, we also went to the National Clock and Watch Museum.

I envy you, wish I could do what you are training for.

Wow! Sounds like you had a first-class tour of the whole area! I have yet to go out to the museum in Columbia, I'm alway traveling to State College on the weekends. I would also love to visit RGM sometime to! Well, thanks for your interest and I hope to post more things on this website!

Hey Ryan! I am glad to see your progress. Thanks for sharing this. Are these tools yours to keep or do they belong to the school?

I recall you from a year or so ago posting on the watchmaking forum.  thanks for sharing some pics of your work and your experience thus far.  very cool!

I hope you will continue to keep us posted.  I've always wondered how you learn the art of watchmaking!

It's amazing all there is to know about watchmaking. Pretty much the majority of the first year is dedicated to micromechanics. It is the base for all watchmaking.
